a) Object
To show ways how to use mathematics in biology, in particular combinatorial and statistical methods. Several
experts from abroad are coming to report the newest developments in those methods. An important application
is the tree of life.
b) Background
Mathematics is used in many ways in biology, for example systems of PDE's and ODE's are used to model for
example the blood flow in vessels. In this conference we focus on statistical and combinatorial methods.
One hot topic is for example the (re)construction of the tree of life, in which quite a bit of combinatorial methods
are used. But also problems like how complex a (biological) network is, a well-studied problem in physics.
c) Expected Result
The are several expected results:
(i) A start of cooperations between Korean scientists and the participants of the workshop.
(ii) To learn the newest developments in methods used to find patterns in biology.
